Getting a call from your brother saying he rolled the 4-wheeler and needs help up the mtn is not a phone call any of us wanted....
Jeremy and Kyler took off on a ride after my Grandma's birthday party. Jer decided to go off roading, Seeing how steep it was and that is was not a trail Kyler asked to get off and my brother told him to stop being a wuss and went up the hill anyway... On the 3rd time up, the dirt was now loosen enough to make it hard for the tires to grip. It wasn't a path so dirt wasn't packed down. The 4 wheeler started to lift, my brother tried to turn down into a raven to save it for flipping down but it was too steep and kyler flying off over Jer's right side. Jer then went head over heels in front of the 4wheeler and it came down over the top of him and the back rack crushed his chest. The 4 wheeler continued down mtn and smacked Ky in the head as well before landing in the bottom of the ravin. Jer came to and saw Kyler down on a rack completely covered in blood. He checked on him, went over to the 4 wheeler flipped it and then started to realize he couldn't breathe :( He made the phone call and when they got up there they found him slumped over a rock not moving and kyler covered in blood. I ran to get Aunt Dee thinking we need someone medical up there and I raced her up the mtn to meet them. We stopped on the road when we met, she ran out and immediately said call 911. So I did. It was so scary. The next hour was terrifying as Kyler declined and Jer couldn't not breath and when they laid him down there was a huge lump in his chest. It was something I never want to relive. I mentioned that he needed a blessing so as we moved him to my Aunt Dee's to wait for the ambulance my uncle Mark and cousin Chris gave Jer a blessing.
The hospital was scary. He still couldn't breath and started to cough up alot of blood. Kyler was hanging in there and went to get tests, xrays and got some stitches on his head. It turns out Jer cracked and completely separated some of his ribs. His right lung was 98 % bruised and there were even small holes in it. He completely broke the up part of his sternum and had some narely scrapes and bruises. Ky got released that night with stitches, a swollen face and a headache. They kept Jer for a few more days because they had to watch some bleeding by his heart.
We were so blessed it wasn't worse and that we didn't lose one of them. There were so many lessons learned, especially as a father for Jer between him and Ky and to all of us who never took wearing helmets serious:(
A few days after the accident while Jer was still in the hospital Ky wanted to go see the crash site so we all loaded up and took him up there and it was so humbling to see what they survived. The pictures do not to the hill justice. My heart literally swelled as we talked through it step by step and could see the tracks, the blood stained rock and the cushion that came off the wheeler.
I'm so grateful they were watched out for that day. I couldn't imagine my life without either of them.
